The House Looked Ready for Christmas—But Something Important Was Missing

Faith. Family. Christmas. Some traditions are worth bringing back every year.

Last December, I stood in the middle of our living room, looking at everything my husband and I had spent the afternoon decorating.

The Christmas tree was glowing in the corner. The stockings were hanging above the fireplace. I'd wrapped the presents, filled the candy dish, and put out the little decorations we'd collected over the years.

It looked lovely. Just the kind of Christmas room I'd always wanted. But something felt a little different. Almost everything I looked at reminded me of presents, treats, and all the excitement of Christmas morning. Our little Nativity set was still tucked into the corner of a crowded bookshelf, where you could barely see it.

I kept thinking about our grandchildren coming over on Christmas Eve. We'd have the usual excitement, the laughter, the gifts, and probably a little too much dessert.

I wanted all of that. I love seeing the children get excited about Christmas.

I just wanted something in the room to remind us why we celebrate in the first place.

I Didn't Need More Christmas Decorations. I Needed One That Meant Something.

My husband smiled when I told him what I was thinking. "Well, we've got enough decorations to fill another house," he said. He wasn't wrong.

Over the years, we'd collected ornaments from family trips, little wooden houses, Christmas figurines, and all sorts of things the grandchildren had made for us. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

But our old Nativity set was becoming harder to find a good place for. There were several little figures to arrange, and the table where I'd displayed it for years was already being used for other things.

I didn't want to get rid of it. I simply wanted a way to make the Christmas story more visible without adding another crowded display to the room.

So I started looking for something a little different.

Not another Santa. Not another string of colored lights. Something that could bring the beauty of Christmas into our home while keeping its meaning close.

That's when I came across the Esslyn™ Bethlehem Star of Faith.

The Star Caught My Eye. The Nativity Scene Made Me Stop.

At first, I noticed the glowing star at the top. Then I followed the warm golden lights cascading downward, past the smaller hanging stars, toward the figures of Mary, Joseph, and the Christ Child at the bottom.

It was all arranged in one graceful, vertical display. I liked that the whole story was there in a single piece. The star drew your eyes upward, and the lights seemed to lead you naturally toward the Nativity scene.

The evergreen branches, little berries, pinecones, and gold bow added that traditional Christmas feeling I love. It looked festive without being overly flashy.

And unlike our old tabletop arrangement, it made use of the wall. I showed it to my husband. "Now that's something we could put where everyone can see it," he said. That settled it for me.

I wasn't looking for a replacement for our Christmas tree. I wanted something that would complement it and give the room another kind of warmth. This felt like just the thing.

A Little Space on the Wall Made a Big Difference

We decided to display our Esslyn™ Bethlehem Star of Faith in a spot where family members would naturally see it as they came into the living room.

My husband helped me check the available wall space and position the decoration. We took a step back to make sure the height looked right, then adjusted the hanging lights and greenery so the design looked balanced.

What I appreciated most was how the vertical shape made use of space that wasn't doing much before. Our tables could stay clear for food and family gatherings. The mantel didn't need another row of decorations. And we didn't have to rearrange half the living room to make room for another large display.

During the day, the star, hanging ornaments, and greenery gave the wall a lovely decorative touch. But after the sun went down, I liked it even more.

The warm LED lights brought out the details of the star and the little Nativity figures. Against the wall, the golden glow created a peaceful Christmas corner that felt different from the colorful lights on our tree.

It wasn't trying to compete with everything else in the room.

It simply belonged there.

Then My Granddaughter Asked Me About the Star

A few days later, my granddaughter came over with her mother. She was looking around the living room when she noticed the new decoration.

"Grandma, is that the star the wise men followed?"

I smiled. "Yes, sweetheart. It's the Star of Bethlehem. It reminds us of the story of Jesus' birth." She looked up at the star again, then at the little figures below it.

It was an ordinary little conversation. Nothing dramatic happened, and I didn't expect it to. But I found myself thinking about it later that evening.

Children notice more than we sometimes realize. They notice the lights, the gifts, the cookies, and the excitement. And I love giving them those happy Christmas memories.

I also want them to grow up remembering the story behind the celebration. That is what I had been looking for when I first stood in our decorated living room and felt that something was missing.

Not a perfect Christmas. Not a house with more decorations than anyone else's.

Just a home where the things we celebrate are reflected in the things we choose to display.

One Decoration, With a Meaning That Lasts Beyond December

The thing I like about the Esslyn™ Bethlehem Star of Faith is that it brings several familiar parts of the Christmas story together in one display.

The Radiant Bethlehem Star
The layered star at the top creates a beautiful focal point, drawing the eye upward and giving the decoration its distinctive look.

The Warm Cascading Lights
Golden points of light flow down through the design, creating a cozy glow when the evenings grow dark.

The Meaningful Nativity Scene
Mary, Joseph, and the Christ Child sit at the heart of the display, keeping the story of Jesus' birth in view.

The Traditional Christmas Details
Evergreen branches, berries, pinecones, and a gold bow complete the look with the familiar warmth of Christmas greenery.

I also appreciate that it works in more than one part of the home. You could hang it in an entryway, place it on a living room wall, brighten a staircase wall, or use it in a suitable sheltered porch area.

And because the design is tall and narrow, it can bring attention to an otherwise empty wall without taking up valuable table or shelf space.

It's a thoughtful option for anyone who loves Christmas decorating but wants something with a little more meaning behind it.

A Christmas Gift That Says More Than "Merry Christmas"

As I've gotten older, I've found myself paying more attention to the decorations I bring home. I still enjoy a beautiful Christmas tree. I still love wrapping presents and watching the grandchildren open them. Those traditions aren't going anywhere. But I also appreciate the things that remind us what matters when the excitement settles down.

That's why I think this would make a lovely gift for a mother, grandmother, Christian friend, or anyone who wants their Christmas decorations to reflect their faith.

It isn't just another seasonal ornament to put away when January arrives. It's something you can bring out year after year, becoming part of the familiar Christmas setting your family remembers.

When I look at ours, I think about the star, the Nativity, and the reason our family gathers together every December. And I think that's a beautiful thing for a Christmas decoration to do.

It didn't replace our tree or the gifts beneath it. It simply gave the room a quiet reminder of why we gathered there in the first place.

If you'd like to bring a little more meaning to your Christmas decorating this year, the Esslyn™ Bethlehem Star of Faith is a beautiful place to start.

Right now, it's 50% off at just $54.99, with extra savings when you choose two or three — a thoughtful way to bring the light of Christmas into your own home or share it with someone you love.

I wanted something that showed the real meaning of Christmas without taking up another table. This is just lovely on our living room wall. The star is beautiful, and I love how the lights lead your eyes down to the Nativity scene. It feels warm and traditional, and my husband liked it just as much as I did.

This is such a pretty Christmas decoration. The gold lights look lovely in the evening, and the little details around the Nativity make it feel special. It was easier to find a place for than another tabletop set, too. I can see us bringing it out every Christmas. It would make a thoughtful gift for someone who loves the Christmas story.

I bought this because I wanted something a little different from the usual Christmas decorations. I love the star at the top and the way the little lights hang down toward the Holy Family. It looks festive during the day and even prettier when the lights are on. A lovely addition to our Christmas decorating.
